American Museum of Natural History Guides Visitors to Knowledge

Point out what's important with the Aruba mobile engagement solution.

The American Museum of Natural History (AMNH) has 45 permanent exhibition halls housed in 28 interconnected buildings. AMNH's mission statement is "To discover, interpret, and disseminate—through scientific research and education—knowledge about human cultures, the natural world, and the universe." They have chosen the Meridian platform to build iOS and Android apps that will help guide their visitors through their vast collection.

AMNH's Meridian-powered apps provide location-aware indoor navigation that will help their visitors find their way to museum exhibits based on their topics of interest. The Meridian platform hosts the app content and provides the tools AMNH needs to keep the content in their apps up-to-date and relevant without needing to publish new versions of the app.

The AMNH Explorer app, powered by Meridian, is continually updated with new exhibit information.

“For nearly 150 years, the American Museum of Natural History has presented science, nature, and culture in ever-evolving ways that reflect how people discover, access, and interact with information,” said Museum President Ellen V. Futter. “As we continue to forge a new role for museums in the 21st century, technology allows us to more fully create an even more seamless and meaningful experience for our visitors, both onsite and online. In doing so, Explorer fuels the spirit of discovery at the heart of all exploration in ways that are thoroughly in step with our times.”
